Somehow a day got away from me this week with all the kids school stuff but here is your Tax Tip for the week – CRA phone scam:
CRA will send you or your Tax professional a letter if you are being investigated for tax fraud, tax evasion or audited.
They will NOT call you and demand you go to your nearest Western Union to transfer them money.
They will NOT accept gift cards of any form, in fact I don’t even believe they accept credit cards yet.
When they call they will give you their full name, agent ID number and department they are calling from. Generally when you are speaking to an agent you won’t hear a bunch of other agents in the background.
Please be very cautious when you get these types of calls and if you are unsure if it is legitimate please call your Tax professional for assistance.
